Check out this article about one of my co-AmeriCorps members, Jae Jae and her incredible path to higher education. Her life story really shows how the opportunities we are given can really alter the path life takes us on. Through Jae Jae’s hard work and utilizing the resources available to her she is accomplishing her goals. The cool part is she is now giving back to students and she is employing the knowledge she has to better the lives of others.
I was talking to a friend’s mom this past weekend about the struggles of financing a college education. We talked about how knowledge really is power when it comes to the financial aid process. She said she wished that four years ago she had known what she knows now. I agreed completely and that is really what motivates me to continue to mentor students on the road to college. I encouraged her to connect with other parents of students who are about to go to college, to share her information and help them on their path.
This is my call to action for us all, because we all have experiences and knowledge that can help someone out. Here is my plea to any recent college graduate and parents of students who have attended or currently attending college—I urge you to share your knowledge. By doing this you are not only empowering someone’s life, you are empowering your community and our country.
